This series consists of a ledger book containing copies of letters sent by the Director of the U.S. Mint in Philadelphia to various private individuals; U.S. Government department heads including Secretary of State John Quincy Adams and Secretary of the Treasury Albert Gallatin; the President of the United States; officials of various private banks throughout the United States; and foreign residents. One letter of note is an August 10, 1826 letter from Samuel Moore, Director of the U.S. Mint to R. W. Mead which notes the acquisition of weights which correspond precisely to the measurements actually used in the Mints of Spain and Mexico.
